Funk Lab Crew

  • Hip Hop History

    A 500-word essay on the history of hip hop, which can be completed as a school assignment or through independent study with us.

  • HEADSPIN

    Must perform three consecutive headspins with correct technique.

  • Elite Dancer

    Those competing at the highest level at competitions. Funk Lab Elite and Intensive.

  • Battle Champ

    Must be the winner of the Unleash the Funk Battle.

  • Student Teacher

    Must perform duties as a classroom assistant with consistent attendance.

  • Student Choreographer

    Students choreographing for competitions this season, including those who submitted work for this year’s choreography contest.

  • Windmills

    Must perform three consecutive windmills with correct form.

  • Back Flip/Handspring

    Must execute one of these tricks with controlled landing and proper form, without the use of mats or a tumble track.

  • Kip Up

    Must perform a proper kip-up with hands, landing controlled on the feet.

  • Rubber Band

    Must perform three consecutive rubberbands, ensuring the hands touch the ground before the back and the legs are fully extended.

  • Hip Hop International

    Must be a participant at Hip Hop International. Previous participants are eligible.

  • Entertainment

    Any dancer who receives a buzzer at PAC, Luxxe or ID during the season

  • Threading

    Must complete both forward and backward threading jumps with a solid landing and without releasing the grip on the foot. Also required to perform one clean ground threading pass.

  • FULL OUT FACIALS

    Dancers earn the Full-Out Facials Patch by consistently demonstrating strong, intentional facial expressions on stage. After each competition, staff will review performance photos and select dancers whose facials enhance the performance of their group and throughout their routines. Up to 10 dancers per competition may be awarded this patch.

  • ELITE BEHAVIOR

    The Elite Behavior Patch is awarded to dancers who consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic, professionalism, and kindness. Honorees show respect at competitions, support their teammates, and display leadership and gratitude toward others, including their parent or guardian. Recipients are selected through staff observation throughout the competition weekend.

MODERN ELEMENTS COMPANY

  • Elite Dancer

    Those competing at the highest level at competitions. Modern Elements level 3 and intensive.

  • Student Teacher

  • Entertainment

  • Fouette

    Must be fully executed with proper technique, including three clean rotations and a controlled landing.

  • Toe Touch

    Legs must be fully extended and parallel to the floor during the jump.

  • Triple Pirouette

    A clean, controlled triple pirouette performed on one side with a precise landing.

  • En Pointe

    Student must be dancing on pointe and have passed the pointe exam.

  • Scorpion

    Must hold the leg with both hands for five seconds. Both legs should be straight, the lifted leg perpendicular to the floor in a full split, and the supporting leg turned out at the hip, knee, and foot.

  • Wings

    Must execute three wings on both legs and three wings on one leg with precision and control.

  • Splits

    Both sides and center splits must be executed properly with correct hip placement and pointed toes.

  • Ballet Bun

    Student must create and maintain a proper ballet bun using the technique outlined in the provided link. No external assistance allowed.

  • Jazz History

    A 500-word essay on the history of jazz dance, which can be completed as a school assignment or through independent study with us.

  • Pull back

    Must demonstrate clean double pullbacks, alternating pullbacks, and single pullbacks (right and left), starting and ending on one foot. No pre-jumping; the feet must remain on the ground before initiating the pullback.

  • Full Out Facials

    Dancers earn the Full-Out Facials Patch by consistently demonstrating strong, intentional facial expressions on stage.
